Method
- Add 30 g coarse-ground coffee to a pre-heated press. Pour 500 g water just off the boil.
- Do nothing for 4 minutes.
- At 4:00, stir the crust gently to break it, then skim off the foam and floating grounds with two spoons.
- Wait another 5–8 minutes for fines to settle.
- Place the plunger just on the surface — do not press. Pour slowly, stopping before the sludge.
Long steep, no plunging. Skimming and settling remove most of the silt that gives French press its muddy reputation.
